Perhaps time flies..

Well, well, well . Perhaps the time is so short, perhaps I don’t realise the time flying, perhaps I am just following the flow. Believe it or not, BELIEVE IT! Its the 9th week. Perhaps its time for me to get real serious on my action research, the one thing that I am not serious about. Perhaps I need someone knowledgeable to guide me. I am thankful to God,( this is like the opening speech of one my GPK) because I am in this school. Ken at first said sad, because he wanted to go to MGS which is not really a big issue. Although this school is full of challenge, I believe it is crucial for us to learn new things and improve our skills. I learned a lot and wish to learn more. This is the school whereby I can put to practice things that I learn in my university. All those dreaded, mind cracking EDU subjects has actually helped us in so many ways. Lesson plan, now its a piece of cake, not to over boast, but just to mention how skilful we are after just about 9 weeks( although I think we are a little like robot).

Fifth week of Practicum

I was writing my blog daily till the day I realised it is the fifth week of my practicum. It’s a long process of becoming skilled and training that comes with a lot of hard work and extra activities. Today was my first observation and I am glad that although I was not so prepared mentally, I managed to achieve the objective of the lesson. However there are certain things that I am not that satisfied. It is in terms of material. For some reason I fail to produce exciting set induction. Next time when I want to teach I plan to use more technology and less textbook.

And i felt so sleepy all day long. What a day...after this I will have to join the In House training for Literature F4 and F5 prepared by Mdm Wong at 2.30 pm to 4 pm.

2nd Day of School

My second day of school. Arrived at 7.20 am, signed the attendance book, and met with our senior practicum teacher. It is still a hot day and me and my friend still get lost finding for the staff room. After a while I entered the co- curriculum room, and log in into my facebook and also started to find some info about A Samad Said’s poem. In the room, I was seeking advice from my senior teacher on how to do the lesson plan and the reflection. Looks  pretty simple but it is actually not that simple. Anyway I hope by the end of this week I won’t get lost.

1st Day in School

My first day in school. Although I woke up with high spirit and full of energy , my first day of school on the 9th of May 2011 is very tiring. After meeting the GPK, I met with my guidance teacher. SMK Abdul Rahman Talib is a very big school, with first class facility. Many of the teachers are very friendly and me and my friend, Ken Carlson met with our senior practicum teachers. I find that this school is very interesting with the load of activities that the school carries out for the students are pretty amazing. I still haven’t get the touch of the school, because it is my first day and I am really tired because of lack of sleep and tiredness of driving for so long from KL to Kuantan. I still have many more works to be accomplished. The struggle continues and I shall continue to fight to survive in this 4 months. May God bless us.

The Real School Situation

Today I went to the Kalumpang Secondary school with my friends to complete macro teaching. Because I was not teaching this time around, I was just being an observer. But an incident happened in the next class that opens my eye and makes me think of the reality of the school situation in Malaysia. The other class is labelled as the last class as their performance in academic is not so good. I was thinking there was not teacher in the classroom, but to my surprise there was a teacher, and that teacher is currently doing practicum in the school. The class was so noisy, with students coming in and out from other classes. Plus there was this boy who sat on the table and his leg was on the table as well. My question is, what is teacher doing in the class? Although the students are not good in their academic, that does not mean that the teacher could not mingle or do some activity with them. It is understood that the level of proficiency in both English and Malay language is poor, but there has got to be something that the students love to do. Or else why are they in the school at the first place. My concern was only one, that is what will these students do once they finish their SPM examination. What is their direction in life. Looking at the current status, I could predict a few just by looking at them. This is not to stereotype, but this is what normally happens when these students don’t have proper guidance in the school. The government spends a lot for excellent students, doing this program and that program and always wanted to increase their academic achievement. But good  academic achievement is something that we can always expect from good students because they have a goal in their life. What about these students who don’t have an idea of why they are in the school at the first place. The concern is, secondary education for them is not for producing flying colours in their exam, but to give them the awareness about the real life. I think this is what is lack in our education system. If the mathematics genius who went to the Oxford could end up being a porn star, what about these students who don’t know a thing about the real life.

Education is the savior of our society

Hi. Welcome back into my hot section of what is happening around us. Few days ago, I attended a program launched by a political party in a place near Tanjung Malim. Its a program done for students who have just received their SPM examination results. the program started at 2 pm and ended at around 5.30 pm. The problem that I had with this program was, it was done with a political agenda. My concern is none but one that is to guide the students, tell them what path to be taken after SPM. Many came to seek advice at my booth. Many Indian students have big dream of becoming engineers, doctors and etc, but they often forget that their result have to be excellent in order for them to get a seat under any scholarship. But that is a different story. My story here today is about how these political leaders tend to make this as a shadow when they actually wanted to show the power of their politics. The speech given by some political leaders were really unrelated and it was too much of dragging around the bush. I mean I know what is intellectual property and so on but would 20 minutes of speech make a big difference in how these students think about life? I doubt so. Nevertheless we listened and listened and listened. The organisers were so much keen to speak on the stage rather than giving constructive tips on how to build a better prospect. The whole program was a bit of messy actually. I think in the mind of these people, talking on the stage works better than explaining one by one to these students. As a result students have less time to talk to us because its already late and people are rushing to go back home. But I did try my level best to give advice and guidance on which career path should be taken. Some were still dreaming in the sky above, and I have to pull them back to reality though some of my friends thought the way I spoke a bit harsh but hey after all I am giving advice here.  At the end of the day, what matters to these students were on what course to be taken because that is their main priority, the rest will come later once they enter the university life. So people, don’t infuse politics and education because education is a holy field and contaminating it with these agendas is not really a good thing to do.

How to eat?

I know it sounds pretty weird when you come across this tagline "How to eat? ".Well yeah, I know its not like something that people does not know. But in most cases people tend to forget the proper etiquette of eating. I am referring to the way of eating of the Eastern people who uses hand. One important thing to remember when you eat is you must never forget that the hand works very well if you really use it in a proper way. The problem with many is they tend to overuse the hand. Therefore the clue is not to overuse your hand while eating. You might be asking me, how to not overuse and how to use our hand with a limit. First of all one need to understand the physique of hand. The hand is made of 5 fingers ranging from the thumb to index finger, middle finger, ring finger, and lastly is the pinky. So how to use our fingers properly while eating. Okay let me give you a situation in order to help you understand better.  There is a big piece of chicken on your plate, rice of a cup size, and little bit of vegetables at the corner. The correct way of taking to food is to the four fingers as broom and group it together with the thumb. So in this way the rice will be gathered together like a small hill. The mistake people do at this part is using the whole fingers to grab the food. It must be remembered that the proper way is not to limit the 2nd line on your finger. Food must not stain your palm as it is not good to look at. Taking little amount is good as you will be able to digest the food fast too. Try to avoid licking the finger as it does not look so nice and just stick to using the fingers as instrument to stuff the food into the mouth. That is all from me for today. I hope I gave good tip on how to use fingers and hand properly.
